410 Stainless Steel Bar is a martensitic (high strength chromium steel) stainless steel with good corrosion resistance and machinability. It is commonly used in the manufacture of steel, edged tools, etc. Its UNS number is S41000. In terms of chemical composition, 410 stainless steel bar has a carbon content of ≤0.15, manganese content of ≤1.00, silicon content of ≤1.00, chromium content of 11.5~13.50, nickel content of ≤0.75, phosphorus content of ≤0.04 and sulfur content of ≤0.03.

Introduction

The hardness standard of 410 stainless steel bar is HB170-200. However, the hardness standard is raised to HB260-280 after tempering treatment, where the organisation is a tempered solitonite retaining martensitic orientation.

Stainless steel bars of this material exhibit good corrosion resistance in mild atmospheres, vapours and many mild chemical environments due to the presence of at least 11.5% chromium. In addition, Type 410 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless steel, which, unlike austenitic stainless steel, is magnetic and can be further strengthened for hardness by heat treatments such as solid solution treatments.

Physical properties of 410 stainless steel bar include:

Density: 7.7 kg/dm³.
Melting point range: 1480~1530°C.
Specific heat capacity: 0.46 kg/(kg-K) at 0~100℃.
Thermal conductivity: 24.2 W/(m-K) at 100℃, 28.9 W/(m-K) at 500℃.
Coefficient of linear expansion: 11 × 10^-6/K for 0~100℃, 11.7 × 10^-6/K for 0~590℃.
Resistivity: 0.57 Ω-mm²/m at 20℃.
Longitudinal modulus of elasticity: 200 GPa at 20℃.
Magnetic properties: magnetic.
