Cold-rolled carbon steel is rolled at room temperature and then rolled again below its recrystallization temperature. This process allows for greater control over the shape, thickness, size, and a more consistent finish of the finished product. Cold-rolled carbon steel is hot-rolled carbon steel that has been further processed. After the hot-rolled steel is cooled, usually at or below its recrystallization point, it is then re-rolled at room temperature to obtain more precise thickness, higher strength and strength, and better surface quality. In addition to changing mechanical properties, the cold-rolling process produces steel with tighter tolerances and greater dimensional accuracy than hot-rolled steel. It also tends to be better suited to lighter gauges and is better suited for applications that require a more visually appealing finish.
