Deformed bars or deformed bars come in different shapes. It can be in the form of a screw rod or corrugated steel. The deformations referred to are their characteristic ridges, indentations, or protrusions. These ridges, or indentations, allow the concrete to grab the rebar more effectively, making the rebar less likely to slip once it’s set in the concrete. The deformed bars also have a unique twist pattern that helps them interlock with each other when placed side by side in concrete structures. The height and spacing of the ridges or indentations are adjusted and evenly spaced across the strip.
Deformed bars are more expensive than round bars but resist slippage better and are almost always used in high-stress applications such as large commercial and industrial projects. Deformed bars are stronger because they have a higher tensile strength. This makes it the material of choice for projects such as highway overpasses, parking lots, bridges, or high-rise buildings. Deformed rebar requires more time and effort to install and is less economical than round rebar, but due to its greater tensile strength, it is a better choice for heavy construction projects and structures.
