Stainless steel is a steel alloy with a chromium content of at least 10.5% and a clearly recognizable surface effect. The chromium content is why it resists corrosion, thermal damage, chemical damage, scaling and maintains high strength and high temperatures. Stainless steel comes in a variety of surface finish options, making it one of the most visually versatile metals in use today. It is very easy to clean (ideal for hospitals, kitchens, food or pharmaceutical facilities). It’s durable, low maintenance and stylish. Unlike carbon steel, stainless steel will not rust in the presence of water or air. Be careful though, as stainless steel can corrode in environments with low oxygen, high salinity, or poor air circulation.
Stainless steel plates are commonly used in cutlery, sinks, microwave oven liners, razor blades, catering equipment, brewing, distillation, food processing, springs, fasteners (bolts, nuts and washers), and even electrical wires. Due to the ease of cleaning and maintenance, the food processing industry uses more than two hundred thousand tons of nickel-containing stainless steel alloys per year.
Stainless steel plate is used in a variety of food handling, storage, cooking and serving equipment, from the beginning to the end of the food processing line. For exterior and decorative applications, stainless steel is used for cladding, handrails, door and window fittings, street furniture, structural profiles, rebar, lampposts, lintels and masonry supports.
