Welded carbon steel pipe is made from otherwise flat carbon steel. This piece of carbon steel is rolled and welded to create a weld that runs a long distance along the carbon steel pipe or pipe. Welds are formed by melting localized metals together using a high-energy source. Therefore, a weld is formed when pressed together. You’ll notice that the welds are weld beads. This will be a step up from the rest of the carbon steel pipe. You’ll find some seams treated to be more flush with the pipe, while others are sold “as welded,” meaning they stay welded and require no further work on the carbon steel.
